April 2024: Predicting the Future

“We are very good at predicting the future, except for the surprises—which tend to be all that matter.” —Morgan Housel, Same as Ever: A Guide to What Never Changes.

There are some things you picture happening your entire life and then when they do, it’s just like you imagined and seems meant to be. On the flipside, there are plenty of times where you envision a moment, and it doesn’t play out at all like you thought it would. At least not immediately. Nothing is easy and there are no short cuts, no matter how much we wish there were. The joyful moments where things magically come together are much less frequent than we would like and are usually a result of countless hours of non-exciting and uneventful work. When things do fall into place, its either too easy or much deserved after waiting for your fortune to shift in the positive direction. Some days you’re doing everything you can to make something happen and can’t seem to get anywhere while other days it feels like the universe is working for you and you can’t miss. I can’t predict the future, but I can equip myself to take on the surprises.

Relinquishing Control

“Go with the flow. Force nothing. Let it happen, trusting that whichever way it goes, it’s for the best.”

-Mandy Hale

You know when you have a ton of things that you need to make happen and just have to sit back and wait? If you make another move or follow up again, you would fall into the “forcing it” category. I would love to close shop and go play 9 holes, and I probably should but I’m too busy racking my mind trying to figure out what else I can do. However there seems to only be one thing left. Don’t say it! That’s right. Be patient. NO! Everyone’s busy and most of the time we’re not at the top of their priority list, as much as we’d like to think we are. This is why hobbies are important and can better than being kicking back and relaxing when you’ve still got energy left to burn. Patience is best practiced with healthy distractions.

What’s the Answer Here?

“Don’t watch the clock; do what it does. Keep going.”

– Sam Levenson

I say bring on the challenges and keep them coming because defeating them are what keeps life interesting. I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather and having an amazing spring thus far!
